Although direct current motors offer excellent speed and torque control and can operate at variable speeds without sophisticated inverter systems, they require more precise maintenance compared to asynchronous motors.
In addition to bearing lubrication, removal of dust and contaminants, and inspection of windings, brushes are subject to wear and require regular brush replacement, while the commutator may require cleaning of commutator bars (under-cutting).
